What sort of classes are these?

The aim is to teach you how to be able to dance salsa/bachata with anyone, anywhere in the world!

Classes are taught in a fun, relaxed atmosphere, where the main goal is just to enjoy the time.

While the vibe is to have a fun and an enjoyable time, there is also a big emphasis on technique, because if you're going to do something, you might as well do it right, right?!

Do I need to have any experience of salsa or bachata?

Not at all.

The beginner 1 class is aimed at people who have never danced before.

If you're not sure which is your left foot, these are the classes for you!

Can I stay with my friend/partner and dance with only them for the whole class?

This is social dancing, not a private class, so we rotate partner every few minutes.

Every leader will dance with every follower multiple times during the class.

You're going to make loads of friends and you'll want to dance with everyone anyway!

If you come to classes, you are agreeing that you will dance with anyone and everyone else.

What do I need to bring?

What should I wear?

Bring:

- Water.

- a small towel

- deodorant

- gum/mint

Wear:

- Something comfortable, but ideally the sort of clothes and shoes that you would wear going to the gym because you are going to be moving a lot.

ABSOLUTELY NO HEELS ALLOWED.

This is to protect the floor of the venue from damage, but also because dancing in heels is only for those with quite a bit of salsa/bachata experience and these classes are for beginners.

Do I need to come with someone?

Not at all.

Dancing is one of the best ways to meet people. You will make friends for life through these classes so do not be afraid to sign up on your own, because you will leave the first class with lots of new friends!

How do the classes work?

Each level does 2 hours per week.

One hour on Monday.

One hour on Wednesday.

See timetable for details.

How does the dancing work in the class?

We form a circle, in pairs, with the teachers in the middle and students rotate so that everyone dances with everyone.

When do we do salsa and when do we do bachata?

We do a week of salsa, then the next week is bachata then salsa then bachata so on and so forth...

Can I drop in and just do a single class?

Each course that starts follows a programme, so each group learns a set list of things together, in a specific order, therefore dropping in to a class is not allowed.

A new round of classes for beginners will begin every 2-3 months.

What is a "social"?

A social is what we in the dance community refer to as our parties where we go to dance.

What is a "leader" and "follower"?

In social dancing, the leader is the one who is responsible for determining what happens, what moves are done.

The follower, follows, and performs the moves that the leader creates.

Do I have to be a follower because I am a woman?

Do I have to be a leader because I am a man?

Absolutely not.

While yes, in the world of social dancing 99% of leaders are men and 99% of followers are women, that is not a rule.

You can be whichever role you feel would suit you more.
